SYNOPSIS:- The Quiet Gun (1957)
Hired gun Doug Sadler rides into a small Western town and immediately provokes the local sheriff, Carl Brandon, by tormenting a simpleminded local named Sampson. Brandon is further provoked by a visit from city attorney Hardy, who announces that the town council is charging local rancher Ralph Carpenter with violations of morality for living with an Indian girl. Brandon, who is in love with Carpenter's estranged wife Teresa, realizes that there is something sinister behind both these events, but he is unsuccessful in preventing calamity from erupting. Eventually he must stand against his entire town in order to protect it and the law he represents.
the town sheriff must look into a scandal involving his friend who is reportedly having an affair with a Native American girl while his wife is on a trip. The friend is enraged at the accusations and kills the town attorney. He is then lynched by the angry town folk. The sheriff is perplexed by the brouhaha and begins investigating. Soon he discovers that the whole mess of rumors were started by a saloon owner and a wicked gunman who were conspiring to steel the dead man's valuable land. The sheriff then engages in a showdown with the two villains
When the city attorney charges rancher Jim Davis with a morals violation due to his living with an Indian woman, sheriff Forest Tucker knows something is going on below the surface, he cannot understand why the city council would make an issue out of this relationship. When Davis is subsequently lynched, Tucker must stand against the town after arresting those responsible, and try to discover who is behind these events pulling the strings. This low budget variation on HIGH NOON is much better than expected, the script is well constructed with some real surprises, and the cast of B movie regulars, including Lee Van Cliff as a gunman dressed in black, are all in good form. The movie is well directed by William Claxton
